01. Research
I researched on the current population and usage on Mobile, Internet and Social Media Use. Based on this data, I have convinced our team to create a mobile application that compliments our original plan on only developing a web application.
By looking into some of the popular Social Media platforms, and collected interviewing results from some of our targeted users (internal employees). From their responses, I have identified the flowing key elements that they have enjoyed from some of the popular social media applications:
Finding communities and connect with friends
Video Chat
Documenting and sharing life updates
02. Analysis
Based on the previous research, I then took a deeper dive on some of the popular platforms which we see our potential users currently enjoying and frequently use. I looked at what are their key features that is unique and driving their users, also what are the most popular and frequent user activities.
Through the competitive analysis and the previous researches, I’ve identified some of the key features to include as a social media app. Also taken in consideration of what our users has voiced, I took the initiatives to transform this application into a communication focused with a social media aspect.
03. Design
File Transfering Vs. File Accessing
We realized that on the mobile end, our users are not looking to transfer their files from their mobile devices, but rather to access files on the go for a quick information scan and to stay up-to-date.
04. Mid-fidelity Wireframe
There are two main scenarios our users brought up:
Knowing who they had communications with, or who is the contact person for certain projects. This usually applies to cross-team or cross-department communications.
They have already in communication with their coworkers, and are looking for files they have sent or been sent to in the past.
We created the “Trending“ feature to suffice the needs of our users to view content outside of their followed contact list. On the other hand, to keep our original focus for this tool to be primarily communication focused, we only allowed the minimal features in the content sharing space.
05. Prototype
